Our 10-day Caribbean cruise on the Celebrity Reflection is only seven days away. I can’t wait to board the ship and spend the next ten days taking full advantage of Celebrity’s hospitality while sailing our way through the sunny Caribbean.
Using some of the tips from my Ten Best Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Next Cruise and with only a week to go, here are the preparations I have been focused on:
Print Completed Documentation:
I completed the check-in process on the Celebrity website prior to this week and set up our SeaPass onboard expense account. I now have all our documentation printed and ready to go along with our passports. Having all the documentation completed before you arrive at the port will save a lot of time and get you onboard as quickly as possible.
Download the Mobile App
Luckily Celebrity has recently added the Reflection to its mobile app, Celebrity X. The app is under development and is available for only certain ships, including Equinox, Constellation and now Reflection. I have downloaded the app for use while onboard to check for activities and create my daily schedule. Check with your cruise line for a mobile app before your sailing date. It is a great way to learn about onboard activities, book reservations and excursions, plan your day and find your way around the ship.
Pre-booked Onboard Services:
I pre-booked an unlimited internet package through the Celebrity website about a month ago for a 10% discount and charged it against the onboard credit we received as a booking perk. Yesterday, I received an email notification from Celebrity promoting a 20% discount for select excursions, specialty dining, beverage packages, spa treatments and internet packages. So I promptly cancelled the internet package I had previously booked and rebooked at the lower price. Remember to sign up for your cruise line’s email notifications. There are always deals and pre-sailing promotions offered especially as you get close to the sailing date.
I only ordered one internet package. Both of us can utilize the service from our own devices, just not at the same time, which is fine for our needs. I also pre-paid the gratuity fees. With this taken care of, I will not have to look forward to paying the charges on our onboard account at the end of the cruise.
I have not yet booked any excursions but with a 20% discount offer, this is a great time to do it. However, our traveling party can’t decide what we collectively would like to do, so we haven’t booked anything! I will let you know how that works out during one of my daily postings from the ship. Our procrastination may come back to bite us.
Because I completed my eDocs a month before the cruise, I was able to order luggage tags from the Celebrity website and they have now arrived. I also have these great luggage tag holders which will help keep my luggage tags intact through the rough handling of airport baggage and taxi cabs.
Packing for a ten day cruise has been a challenge, especially because we are trying to stick to one checked bag between the two of us and two carry-ons. I have packed the following extra items that really come in handy while onboard.
Power bar with USB ports: There are never enough outlets in cruise cabins so to avoid a battle of the outlets, I pack this power bar with USB ports to take with us. With three outlets and two USB charging options, we should have enough extra outlets for our iPads and cell phones during the cruise.
Beach Chair Towel Clips: These cute critter towel clips will keep my towel securely on my lounger at pool side or at the beach during port days.
Coffee Mug: Plastic cups and disposable coffee cups are inconvenient and do not work well when you are on deck or pool side. These beverage containers keep my coffee hot and my drinks cold.
Lanyard: This stylish lanyard necklace keeps my room card handy without the need to carry a purse. I also use this lanyard year-round at work to hold by company identification badge.
Tote Bag: To carry items on to deck as well as to the beach during port days, I pack this tote bag. I also use it during embarkation day to take our essentials with us onboard while we are waiting for our cabin and our luggage to arrive. Its big enough for beach towels, sunscreen, camera, book and our personal items. It also has a cooler compartment in the bottom to hold a couple bottles of water.
We have booked a hotel near the cruise port and will arrive the day before our sail date. Plenty of time to have a relaxing breakfast and a quick run or neighbourhood walk before heading to the cruise port. We usually book either Uber or Lyft to get from the hotel to the cruise terminal. Alternatively, you may find it convenient to book a hotel that offers cruise port transportation.
